CancerLab – Laboratory of Molecular Pathology of Cancer

The Laboratory of Molecular Pathology of Cancer (CancerLab) at the University of Brasília is dedicated to advancing cancer research through the development of innovative liquid biopsy tools and the investigation of molecular targets both genetic and epigenetic that drive carcinogenesis. Our ultimate goal is to translate these discoveries into novel diagnostic and prognostic strategies that can improve cancer treatment and patient care

Our Mission

We are committed to training highly qualified professionals in innovative techniques of gene editing, genomics, and liquid biopsy. Our work is dedicated to advancing prevention and comprehensive care for oncology patients, while also developing cutting edge products and services that strengthen scientific and technological innovation in health.

Our Research

Our research focuses on:

  • Liquid biopsy: studying circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) for clinical applications.
  • Epigenetics: investigating the role of methyltransferase enzymes in solid tumors and leukemias.
  • Gene editing: developing CRISPR/Cas9-based strategies for selective knockout (KO) in cancer.

Our Team

The Laboratory of Molecular Pathology of Cancer (CancerLab) is the operational unit of two research groups at the University of Brasília: Patologia Molecular do Câncer (created in 2008) and Desenvolvimento e Aplicações em Biópsia Líquida (created in 2022). Together, these initiatives bring together researchers dedicated to exploring the molecular mechanisms of human carcinogenesis and translating discoveries into clinical applications.

Our team integrates expertise across Clinical Pathology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, and Genetics creating a truly multidisciplinary environment to drive high-impact research in cancer biology.

Looking Ahead

We aim to expand our collaborations with leading research centers across Brazil and abroad, fostering student and researcher exchanges that will strengthen our scientific network and amplify the global reach of our discoveries.
